So you shouldn’t wash your car

There are thousands of special cleaners for car wash – some even cost a fortune. However, the ADAC experts are skeptical whether cheap home remedies are an alternative.
How do you get rims best clean? If you tip this question on the Internet, thousands of answers come back. They rang from sometimes very expensive special cleaners to cheap home remedies – or even drinks. But is cola really suitable as a cleaning agent? It is skeptical.
In a guide, the club not only deals with the correct cleaning of aluminum and steel rims, but also with cheap means to remove the mostly stubborn dirt film that accumulates on the bikes. The tips on social networks, according to the ADAC, often include oven spray, vinegar essence and even cola.
ADAC: Cola not effective, vinegar may even be problematic
After all, Cola is harmless – but equally useless. “Superficial dirt can be removed in this way, stubborn dirt and, above all, brake dust are not really effective,” the club writes about the cleaning performance of the soft drink. In addition: If you use the sugared cola, wasps are likely to be interested in car wash, especially in summer.
The club, on the other hand, clearly has to warn of vinegar: in the wrong concentration, according to the ADAC, the popular home remedy can attack aluminum rims. The experts also advise against this.
If in doubt, you should probably take your fingers everywhere, where it is not explicitly on the rim cleaner. In the case of aluminum rims or paint, you should also make sure to use “under no circumstances acidic or alkaline rim cleaners”, it is said.
The general tip is: “PH-neutral products or normal all-purpose cleaners with high fatty solvents are more suitable. This is where the mechanical power of manual work dominates.”
If rim cleaning, then correct
The cleaning of the bikes will not be easy. For a really good result, the ADAC recommends a pre -cleaning in the car wash. Then you should dry the rims and treat with the right cleaner. After the prescribed exposure time, you should take a washing brush and rinse the rims as much as possible. You can reach the last remnants in hard -to -reach places with a brush.
The club then recommends the seal of the rims – here too you should take a closer look at the product selection.
According to ADAC, rims should be cleaned regularly – then the effort is also limited. At least, however, the experts recommend using the annual tire change for the intensive cleaning of the bikes.
