So old? These cars become classic cars in 2025
1995 was a good car year. Numerous models came onto the market, even Ferrari presented a new super sports car. Now the cars are officially becoming classic cars.
If you think of a classic car, many vehicles such as the Mercedes W126 or a BMW E12 525 come to mind. Grandpa’s cars – that was already old -fashioned at the time and is now antique. But if you look at which vehicles already enjoy an H licensee in 2025, in many cases, they have a little in common with the time-honored bodies.
In 2025 there is another year – because in 1995 over 100 new models of all brands were presented, which now crack the magical limit of 30 years. Among them are modern cars, such as the BMW Z3 or the Fiat Barchetta. Even a super sports car from Ferrari, which really doesn’t look old, becomes historical: in 1995 the Ferrari F50, the predecessor of the Enzo, came onto the market.
Of course, not all cars are as worth preserving as a Ferrari F50 – also supposedly unsightly mass -produced goods are among the vehicles. However, this claim is only drawn from today’s perspective – because when the VW Beetle could still be found on every street corner, the same was said. Today you are happy when one of the little speedsters rattles past. Who knows – maybe this will also apply to a Chrysler Voyager in ten or 20 years. Even if it sounds unlikely today.
What does an H license plate bring in Germany and how do you get it?
In order to obtain an H license plate for classic cars in Germany, you have to obtain an expert opinion in accordance with paragraph 23 of the road traffic registration regulations from a recognized examiner that confirms that the vehicle is at least 30 years old and has a well-preserved original condition. Then go to the registration office with all the necessary documents.
An H license plate for classic cars in Germany has some advantages, including the reduced vehicle tax of 191.73 euros per year, regardless of displacement or pollutant emissions. Vehicles with H-license plates can fully enter in environmental zones even without a green badge. Insurance also often offer special classic car tariffs that are cheaper than regular car insurance.
