The traffic police reminded about the sanctions for driving while intoxicated

In January, the traffic police of Moscow identified and stopped almost 2.3 thousand facts of driving vehicles by drivers with signs of intoxication. This was announced on February 11 by the official Telegram channel of the Moscow State traffic inspectorate.

It is noted that in 1150 cases the drivers were in a state of intoxication, 141 of them were found to be drug intoxicated.

1141 drivers refused to undergo a medical examination.

In addition, criminal cases were initiated against 60 drivers under Article 264.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for repeated drunk driving.

The traffic police reminded that for driving while intoxicated, the violator faces a fine of 30 thousand rubles and deprivation of the right to drive for up to two years. In the case of a repeated offense already being deprived of the right to drive vehicles, the offender faces criminal liability up to imprisonment for up to two years, and if there is a conviction for such a violation, up to three years in prison.

On January 3, it was reported that rapid tests for the instant detection of drunk drivers could go to the traffic police as early as this year. The possibility of using such devices has been discussed since 2019.

Rapid tests will speed up the detection of drunk driving. Unlike traditional devices, new ones instantly determine the presence of alcohol in the body. At the same time, rapid tests do not show the exact amount of alcohol in the blood.
