Hyundai brand pushes into Europe: Genesis announces first electric car

Another carmaker is now pushing ahead with an electric car in Europe: The Korean Hyundai luxury brand Genesis wants to bring its first purely electric car onto the market this year. The model attracts, among other things, with a quick charging system and door unlocking using face recognition.

Genesis has released a handful of models since last summer. Hyundai’s luxury brand has now shared information about its first all-electric car, the GV60. The model is based on the electric platform E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) specially developed by Hyundai – just like the EV6 from the subsidiary Kia and the Hyundai Ioniq5. Genesis states a range of up to 517 kilometers and promises “first-class performance on the way to electrification”.

The GV60 has a quick charging system with up to 800 volts, which is supposed to bring the 77.4 kWh battery of the Stromer from 10 to 80 percent battery charge in 18 minutes with a 350 kW quick charge. In addition, electrical devices can be connected to the charging socket via an adapter, so that the SUV can be used as a mobile power source.

Hyundai luxury brand with three new model versions

The electric model is to be launched in three versions: from a 168 kW single motor to the premium version with the “Sport Plus Package” with all-wheel drive and two 160 kW motors as well as an additional boost of 40 kW for a duration of ten seconds.

The standard equipment includes safety systems and, among other things, a 12.3-inch infotainment display. In addition, the GV60 has a keyless door unlocking using face recognition and fingerprint. However, this will not be activated due to the data protection guidelines in Europe. However, opening the vehicle using a digital key on the smartphone should work. With a trunk volume of 430 liters and an overall length of 4.52 meters, the GV60 comes close to the VW Tiguan.

According to Genesis, the electric car will be available to order shortly and will be launched on the European market in the course of the year. The price of the model will probably start at around 50,000 euros.

Genesis announces three electric cars by the end of the year

The GV60 is the sixth model in the Genesis vehicle range, all of which also have the “GV” designation. The Korean carmaker plans to launch three electric cars by the end of the year. From 2025, all new models will appear exclusively with an electric motor. After all, Genesis wants to be a zero-emissions brand by 2030, and the company wants to be climate-neutral by 2035.
