A European initiative provides for up to five AI gigafabrics. The Free State of Bavaria immediately raises his hand. From Söder and Co’s perspective, there are many reasons that speak for it.
Bavaria has applied to the EU Commission for the establishment of a European Gigafabric for Artificial Intelligence (AI). “Only sky is the limit. Bavaria is already mega in AI research. Our supercomputer” Blue Lion “is a worldwide top star,” said Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) in Munich to express the Bavarian interest. The European Gigafactory should therefore also get a home in Bavaria. The aim of the European initiative is to set up up to five AI gigafabrics with which companies and scientific institutions can gain access to the highest computing power for the most complex AI models.
100,000 AI chips of the latest type
In every Gigafactory, Söder continued, 100,000 AI chips would expect the latest design. “AI and supercomputing will completely change our world. Bavaria should be there when science fiction becomes a reality.” Only if Bavaria invests in technology can you continue to play in the high-tech champions.
“The idea and added value of the AI Gigafactories must go beyond the mere position of computing capacities. They require embedding in a greater strategic concept,” said Science Minister Markus Blume (CSU). The local concept therefore essentially builds on the scientific excellence of Bavaria, the infrastructure and the global companies in Bavaria.
Securing talents and jobs
“An extremely strong tech industry, internationally recognized research capacities and our clear commitment to the digital sovereignty of Europe are making the Free State a predestined location for a gigafactory,” said Blume. For Bavaria and all of Germany, it is also concerned with “the sustainable securing of the talent pool, high-quality jobs, the global connectivity of our companies and a thrust for further super tech settlements”.
