General renovation should make railway more punctual

With the so -called general renovation, the railway plans to fundamentally modernize more than 40 busy and overtight route corridors in the coming years and prepare for digital expansion. Little by little, the punctuality in long -distance transport is said to rise again, which was more bad in the past year than ever since the 1994 rail reform.

The main reason for lousy reliability is the dilapidated and overloaded network. Numerous construction sites slow down rail traffic every day. After the extensive renovation of the routes, they should remain construction -free for at least five years.

The start was on the Riedbahn between Frankfurt and Mannheim last year. Among other things, the Hamburg-Berlin route is on this year. The corridors are completely blocked for the duration of the renovation in order to be able to complete all work as possible during the period.

The specific suggestions

The rail proposal adheres to the previous renovation plans up to and including 2026, as it was said from participant circles. The first shifts would then be the following year. The Frankfurt-Heidelberg route is to be renovated until 2027. The renovation of Lübeck-Hamburg would shift by one year to 2028.

In 2028, only four instead of nine routes as previously planned will be renovated. According to the Bahn’s ideas, the renovations of Würzburg-Ansbach-Treuchtlingen (new: 2029), Aachen-Köln (2029), Forbach-Ludwigshafen (2029), Minden-Wunstorf (2034) and Weddel-Magdeburg (2032).

The last and only renovation in 2035 would be the Flensburg-Hamburg route.
