Train wants to increase the seat offer – Dementi to dismantle

Deutsche Bahn converts its long -distance fleet. Older trains are retired. Are the bottom line lost to customers?

Deutsche Bahn wants to increase its range of seats in long -distance transport in the next few years, to what extent, it will leave it open for the time being. The aim is to “rejuvenate and modernize the fleet to stabilize the company,” said the train. The federal traffic group thus reacted to a contribution by the “Spiegel” magazine on Thursday evening, in which there is talk of consideration of deleting 21,000 seats in long -distance transport.

The train contradicted this: “The DB does not want to delete 21,000 seats in long -distance transport. The right thing is: The number of seats available for our passengers is increasing by 2036.” Especially with the ICE, “the seats available for passengers daily would increase significantly in the coming years”, it said.

Train: Older trains are retired

According to its own statements, the “Spiegel” had evaluated a “corporate pad” as strictly confidential. Accordingly, the railway is considering reducing the number of seats in long -distance transport from the current 265,000 to 244,000 by 2036. The older intercity trains (IC) 23,000 out of 55,000 seats were lost, but 2,000 would be added to the ICE fleet during this period. In the future, ICE trains would also run on routes that have been operated by IC trains so far.

The railway made it clear that the numbers mentioned by the “Spiegel” were seats in the stock, including older intercity trains that are rarely used, and not the daily places. The strategy belongs to consistently outpours older and troublesome vehicles. “Older trains have to take more maintenance breaks and are not available for passengers.” The train does not want to withdraw from a Germany -wide range of transport. It is “still clearly a traffic offer in the area,” says the group’s statement.
