Is the electricity tax still reduced for everyone? The coalition wants to advise where the money could come from.
A further reduction in energy prices is not yet off the table in the federal government. According to information from the German Press Agency, the coalition committee will deal with the topic in the coming week. It should be discussed which expenses are dispensable to create scope for further relief, it was said from government circles. “Then further steps would be possible to reduce energy prices.” The CDU, CSU and SPD coalition committee will meet next Wednesday.
Promise in the coalition agreement
The Union and SPD had agreed in the coalition agreement to reduce electricity tax for everyone to the European minimum size – also for private consumers. The coalition had recently moved away from this and had justified it with household constraints. There was violent criticism.
So far it is planned that there will be relief in the network charges, part of the electricity price, on January 1. In addition, the gas storage levy for consumers is to be abolished. The lowering of electricity tax for industry, agriculture and forestry should be “stabilized”.
