IAA on growth course and probably on in Munich

The industry is hoping for a self -confident sign in autumn. Times are difficult. The current Munich venue apparently has the best cards for the next trade fairs.

The IAA Mobility Auto and Mobility Fair is expected to be larger and more international this year than in the previous edition 2023. Currently, the area bookings were higher than at the same time two years ago, the Munich Messe and the industry association VDA said as an organizer. In addition, 54 percent of the registered exhibitors come from abroad – a record and around 5 percentage points more than a year ago.

Asia in particular urges the fair. 68 percent of international exhibitors come from there, which is a good third of all exhibitors. China is strongly represented. According to the organizers, 103 exhibitors from there are currently registered – that is a good third more than it was at the end in 2023. In addition, the Korean brands Hyundai and Kia return to the fair.

In the open spaces – controversial exhibition areas on public ground in the city center – demand is also apparently high. There is already more space there than it was in total in overall. Proponents see the free opening of the fair for the general public in the free -accessible exhibition areas in the city center, critics of the use of public space for advertising and group interests.

Also probably in Munich in the future

These open spaces, which also explicitly praised Müller, are a central element of the concept with which Munich won the IAA. The originally agreed series of three events is now coming to an end, but it looks like that the IAA will remain in Munich despite the violent advertising of the former host Frankfurt. Also because the city council has already given approval for future open spaces. There is a lot to be said for Munich, said Müller, that she was confident that the cooperation could be continued. Messe managing director Stefan Rummel even said that he was confident that this could soon be done in writing and announced.

“Figure of the industry”

The industry shows “what we can do,” said VDA President Hildegard Müller. “I am looking forward to the fact that our industry sends a confident signal of strength and future -oriented mentality.” The fair is “the global figurehead of our industry”.

The German auto industry can use self -confidence well. Recently, bad news came from the industry. The profits shrink, many companies break down jobs. In addition to the current tense customs situation, the reasons include, above all, a violent price competition in the important market of China, whose manufacturers in the industry also compete more and more.

Economic factor also for Munich

The managing directors of Messe Munich, Stefan Rummel and Reinhard Pfeiffer, emphasized, among other things, the economic importance for Munich. “We expect regional added value in a three -digit millions,” they said.

Part of the fair will also be test drives. According to the current status, 229 vehicles are available, around a quarter more than 2023. In addition, there should be an operating area for autonomous driving on the A94. In addition to cars, there are also areas for cycling and micromobility. A four-kilometer circuit for bicycle test drives is planned in the English garden. The fair will take place from September 9th to 14th.
