Sports and safety equipment has been done in Fürth for almost 100 years. Now the majority of the family business is going into strange hands.
The Franconian manufacturer of protective equipment and special glasses, UVEX, is sold in parts to a financial investor. This was announced by the company at the company’s headquarters in Fürth. The private equity company Warburg Pincus will acquire the majority on the company, it said. The shareholder families winter and gray remained involved with “a significant proportion of minority”.
Uvex was founded by Philipp Winter 99 years ago. The company has become known for sports equipment – especially ski glasses and ski helmets. However, the majority of its turnover makes UVEX with special equipment for occupational safety.
“As a responsible family business in the fourth generation, we want to shape the next phase of corporate development with a strong growth partner in order to further increase our group’s resilience in the future and to remain the first choice for our customers,” said company boss Michael Winter. The competition authorities still have to agree to the transaction.
In the past 2023/24 financial year, Uvex had achieved sales of 666 million euros, an increase of 1.7 percent compared to the previous year. More than 80 percent of the proceeds were achieved in occupational safety. The business with sports glasses is under pressure. In the past financial year, sales in this area fell by 9.3 percent. Uvex makes more than half of its business abroad.
