With taxi corsos in several cities, the industry protests for minimum prices and stricter rules for Uber and Co. which warn of the consequences.
With taxi demos in several cities, the industry wants to draw attention to its precarious situation nationwide. The taxi advertising calls for stricter rules for the competition on rental car platforms such as Uber and Bolt.
In the morning there were first taxi corsos in Dortmund and Düsseldorf, as the managing director of the Federal Association of Taxi and Rental Car, Michael Oppermann, said. The greatest demonstration is expected around noon in Berlin. Here the association expects around 1,000 vehicles in the Tiergarten around the Brandenburg Gate.
The day before, there had been a first demo of taxi drivers in Frankfurt. In addition to Berlin, campaigns are planned for Wednesday in Stuttgart, Cologne, Bremen or Hanover.
Taxi industry speaks of unfair competition
Just as there are tariffs for the taxi industry, minimum fees for platform rental cars should also be set, the association demanded. “We have nothing against competition. But it is only fair with almost the same prices,” emphasized Oppermann. The industry sees an unfair competition in the rental car platforms such as Uber and Bolt because their prices are not regulated officially.
Bolt, Christoph Hahn’s new Germany boss, rejects minimum prices. “Minimum prices will not save the taxi industry,” he emphasized. “Such a measure would only be at the expense of consumers who would then switch to their own car again.”
