Tesla deliveries again fell by around 13 percent

When Tesla delivery fell by 13 percent at the beginning of the year, the generation change at the bestseller Model Y was considered a factor. But the new version on offer was not going better.

Tesla sold significantly fewer cars again in the past quarter. The deliveries fell by 13.5 percent to 384,122 vehicles in the year. The new variant of the previous bestseller Model Y, which has been available since March, has not initially been able to boost sales. She has been going to customers since March.

In addition to the controversy about political activities by Tesla boss Elon Musk, the transition phase in the Model Y was considered a reason for the drop in sales of 13 percent in the first quarter. Tesla converted the production lines at the beginning of the year. For this, production paused for a few weeks. At the same time, pricing prospective customers were less to buy a vehicle of the previous Y variant.

The renewed minus brings Tesla to the second annual decline in deliveries in a row. The deliveries in the second quarter were close to the average expectations of the analysts. At the same time, some market observers had expected an even lower value on around 355,000 vehicles. The Tesla share increased by more than five percent in a first reaction in pre-exchangeable trade.

New pressure through the end of US electropro premium?

A lot had happened in the past three months. Musk announced that he was more concerned with Tesla and retired from Washington, where he acted as a cost lower in the government apparatus on behalf of President Donald Trump. Then Musk overturned Trump in the dispute over the tax and expenditure law driven by the President.

The current plan, which still lacks the approval of the House of Representatives, provides for the abolition of electric car sub-tubes in the USA at the end of September. This could further pressure the Tesla sales in the important home market at the end of the year. The White House is also trying to stop California’s project in 2035 in the most populous US state to only allow the sale of cars with electric drive.

Autonomous driving should bring turn

Musk announces, however, that the future of Tesla is in robot taxis and humanoid robots anyway. At the end of June, the group brought its first robotaxi service in Austin in Texas – in small format. Initially, only a few model-Y cars are in use for the driving service, only customers invited by Tesla are allowed to use it-and an employee drives in the passenger seat. However, Musk continues to promise hundreds of thousands of self -driving Teslas on the streets in the coming year. Meanwhile, Tesla’s cars are getting more and more competition – especially in the important Chinese market.

Weak sales in Europe

The renewed decline in sales was already evident. In May, the Tesla new approvals in the EU fell by 40.5 percent to 8,729 vehicles in May. In the first five months they broke up by a good 45 percent to 50,413 Teslas.

According to the Bloomberg financial service, Musk recently took over the supervision of production and sales in Europe after his long -time confidante Omead Afshar left the company. Tesla has his European plant in Grünheide near Berlin. The group itself does not provide any information on results in individual regions and countries.

In China, deliveries from the Tesla plant in Shanghai increased by 0.8 percent to 71,599 vehicles in the year. At the beginning of the year there was also a significant decline. The data does not show whether the vehicles were delivered in China or exported to other countries. From Shanghai, Tesla also supplies Europe with Model 3.

Tesla built a total of 410,244 cars of all models one percent less than a year earlier in the past quarter.

In the past few months, the criticism of the political role and the right -wing political views of Musk has become louder. There were boycott calls and repeatedly protests at Tesla locations in different countries.

The tech billionaire became a tight ally of Donald Trump last year, to whom he donated more than $ 250 million for the election campaign for the White House. Musk’s political activity scored at least some potential Tesla buyers. In Germany, the Tech billionaire campaigned for the AfD before the Bundestag election and mixed into British politics for a while.
