Elon Musk will not like that: his e-car maker Tesla once again delivered significantly fewer vehicles in the past quarter.
The US electric car manufacturer Tesla sold fewer cars than expected in the spring quarter. According to Wednesday, the company delivered a total of 384,000 vehicles, which is 13.5 percent less than a year ago. Analysts surveyed by Visible Alpha had expected 395,000 cars.
Tesla has strong competition from China
On the one hand, Tesla gets to feel the sharp competition in China and in other markets, where a large number of new and established car manufacturers are now pushing on the market with their vehicles. In addition, there is the model change at the most important model Y, where Tesla has launched a revised version that has only been delivered to the buyers for a few weeks.
In such phases, a drop in sales is not unusual. After all, the political commitment of Tesla boss Elon Musk for the government of US President Donald Trump has scared some customers.
However, the stocks increased by seven percent on the stock exchange before the start of the trade. Tesla is currently generating the lion’s share of his sales by selling vehicles. However, investors particularly pay attention to Musk’s robotaxi plans, which promises them strong growth. A trial operation in the US city of Austin has been running for a few days. In addition, a cheaper vehicle should be launched this year. It is expected that it is a stripped down version of the Model Y.
