On the highway, it is fueling a good 40 cents more expensive

A sample of the ADAC shows fuel prices at most rest areas well above those behind the next motorway exit.

At the beginning of the summer travel season, the ADAC advises to avoid motorway filling stations. There, fuel costs an average of more than 40 cents more per liter than behind the next motorway exit, as a sample of the traffic club showed. The differences have also grown slightly compared to previous years.

Specifically, the ADAC came to an average price difference of just under 44 cents per liter at this year’s sample at 50 pairs of petrol station at Superzenzin at Superzenzin. In view of the rather small sample, however, there is a certain inaccuracy. The Bundeskartellamt recently came up with a similar dimension of around 40 cents. Converted to a tank filling of 50 liters, the departure from the highway can save on average or even more than 20 euros.

Up to 57 cents difference

The differences were not the same everywhere. At the top, the ADAC found a difference of a good 57 cents, but there was also an exception with only 0.9 cents difference. In total, however, there were 90 percent of the petrol stations of at least 30 cents at E10, and 88 percent of the petrol stations for diesel.

The ADAC is critical of the prices on the highway: “A certain surcharge due to expensive concessions and the offer around the clock is understandable from an ADAC perspective. However, price differences in the heights found are not acceptable,” it said. “Drivers should therefore avoid the petrol stations on the highways and drive off for refueling. The mostly short detour is practically always worthwhile.”

Other ways to save on the way to vacation can be refueled in the evening before departure, because fuel is usually significantly cheaper than in the morning. If the car is often abroad, it often fuels – but not always – behind the border cheaper than in Germany.
