Whether flight loss or train delay: In the dispute with travel companies, consumers can contact an arbitration board. Recently there were more complaints in a certain area.
For conflicts with travel companies, consumers can contact the arbitration board and traffic. A little more than 18,800 complaints were submitted there in the first six months of this year, as can be seen from the half -year report of the arbitration board. That was around 700 fewer than in the first half of 2024.
The arbitration board has been taking care of problems with flight, bus, train and ship trips since 2010. For the most part, it is about compensation in the event of delays or failures of flights and train trips. Around 400 transport companies take part in the arbitration process that you finance yourself.
According to the report, most of the arbitration applications refer to air travel – with increasing tendency. The arbitration board registered around 16,000 flight cases in the first six months of the current year, an increase of 0.7 percent compared to the same period last year.
Conflicts with railway companies, on the other hand, were less common: around 2,700 cases were counted, which is a good 700 less than in the first half of 2024.
Mostly more cases in the second half of the year
According to the balance sheet, most applications received in January. This is limited because the travel activity is particularly high at the turn of the year. Because travelers first have to register their claims with the respective company, it usually takes a few weeks for the cases to land at the arbitration board. Due to the high travel activity in summer, more cases are usually recorded in the second half of a year than in the first half.
For the year 2025, the arbitration board expects almost as many new cases as 2024.
