China imposes opposing EU medicine products

In June, the EU decided to partially exclude Chinese providers from public tenders for medical devices. Only Beijing reacts.

China reacts to new EU restrictions and occupies medical devices from the EU with opposing sanctions. One sees yourself forced to take “equivalent countermeasures” in order to protect the “legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies” and protect a fair competition, the state news agency Xinhua quoted a spokesman for the Beijing Ministry of Commerce.

Previously, the EU Commission decided on June 20 to exclude Chinese providers of public tenders for medical devices worth over five million euros. Medical products are affected by all kinds – such as devices and devices for ventilation, X -ray or sterilize, but also wheelchairs and association materials such as plasters.

According to Chinese information, EU companies have also been excluded in China in a value of over 45 million Yuan (around 5.3 million euros) since Sunday. Medical devices imported from the EU are only affected. Products from EU companies that produce in China remained unaffected.

Beijing accuses EU double morality

It was the first time that Brussels used a sanction instrument introduced in 2022 that reacted to discriminatory award practice of other states. The Commission founded the step with unequal competitive conditions: European providers are disadvantaged in almost 90 percent of the tenders in China.

The Chinese side spoke of a protectorist procedure and accused Brussels double morality. Despite the discussion offers, the EU acted one -sidedly, it says from Beijing.
