Yandex, VK and Kaspersky Lab (LC), as part of the Alliance for Digital Protection of Children, launched a pilot project to identify and block child pornography, as well as “sexualized content involving minors.” This was told to Izvestia by a representative of the alliance.
According to the interlocutor of Izvestia, such content will be transmitted from Yandex sites and from VK social networks (VKontakte and Odnoklassniki) in the form of digital fingerprints (hashes) and in the form of links – while the data will be encrypted.
This makes it possible to filter different message formats, the alliance noted. Companies use both artificial intelligence and manual selection to search.
Identified illegal content is permanently blocked. If it appears again, it is also blocked, the representative of the business association explained. This is the first example in the Russian Federation when large IT companies have collectively taken up the fight against malicious and illegal content, he stressed.
On average, children spend on the Internet about six hours a day, says the director of the Regional Public Center for Internet Technologies (ROCIT) Rustam Sagdatulin.
“At the same time, 69% of parents believe that their children play games and look for information on their studies, while the children themselves do not hide the fact that they use the Internet to communicate (72%), watch videos and films (70%) and watch the tape in social networks (68%),” the expert said.
According to Rustam Saghdatulin, the involvement of industry participants, commercial companies in the fight against illegal content “will not only increase the speed of its detection, but also reduce the penetration and distribution of illegal content by several times.”
