Dei stands for diversity, equality and integration-also with T-Mobile US. But for the business, the Telekom subsidiary cuts corresponding programs for minorities.
The Deutsche Telekom subsidiary T-Mobile US ends its programs for diversity, equality and integration (Dei) under the pressure of the government of Donald Trump. T-Mobile US is currently waiting for the consent of the US authorities to two larger transactions.
In a letter published on Wednesday to the head of the US Telekom regulatory authority FCC, Brendan Carr, said T-Mobile Us that their own DEI-related guidelines will be terminated “not only to the name, but in the substance”. There will be no more individual roles or teams that deal with Dei, it said. In addition, all references to the T-Mobile US website and training materials for employees would be removed.
T-Mobile is waiting for the approval of the FCC for the purchase of almost the entire mobile phone business of United States Cellular for $ 4.4 billion and for a separate transaction for the foundation of a joint venture with the financial investor KKR to take over the Internet service provider Metronet.
T-Mobile US and Donald Trump’s goals
The abolition of diversity programs is one of the goals of US President Trump. Shortly after taking office, he had overturned regulations, some of which were to be achieved with the equal opportunities and a balanced occupation of the workforce in terms of characteristics such as skin color, gender and religion. The FCC boss Carr used by Trump had initiated investigations against various companies for their DEI programs. In mid-May, the US telecom company Verizon had received the Green Light from FCC for the $ 20 billion takeover from the Frontier Communications after setting its diversity program.
