US President Donald Trump makes more and more customs letters to countries public. So far, the EU is not underneath. A letter now stands out.
US President Donald Trump announces more and more letters with customs provisions for other countries on August 1st. On Wednesday afternoon (local time), the Republican posted a letter to Brazil with the highest value of 50 percent so far on the import of products to the USA.
Trump takes Bolsonaro protected: witch hunt has to end
It is striking about this letter compared to the fact that Trump accuses Brazil of dealing with the controversial former president Jair Bolsonaro. The right ex-president is on trial because after his election defeat in 2022 he is said to have planned an attempted coup against the government of his successor Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He rejects the allegations. Trump wrote in the customs letter that Bolsonaro was highly respected in his reign. The US President asked: “This is a witch hunt that should end immediately”.
Hours earlier, Trump had already announced another thrust of letters. The European Union was initially not among them. The new letters were addressed to Iraq, Libya, Algeria, Moldova, Philippines, Brunei and Sri Lanka. Since Monday, the US President has made the new customs rules known for goods to the United States. He justifies the tariffs with a previous imbalance.
