In the Ukraine War, drones have become an important weapon. The wide possible uses of the unmanned flight objects also create new business models in Germany.
Military conflicts such as the Ukraine War drive the German drone industry heavily, according to the Bdli industrial association. “German manufacturers of unmanned flight systems are currently experiencing rapid demand in military education and warlike arguments,” explains the Bdli main manager Marie-Christine von Hahn. The innovation cycles are almost dizzying. “What was still a garage startup yesterday will be in series production tomorrow.”
According to its own statements, the Federal Association of the German Aerospace Industry (BDLI) represents around 260 member companies with around 46 billion euros in annual sales and 115,000 employees. The association does not dare to do any concrete sales information for the still young underbearing of the unmanned flight systems (UAS). According to a monitor limited to 30 companies, the proceeds rose by nine percent last year. Larger degrees would be expected. The number of employees grew by around 24 percent to 7,700 people in the year.
Around 70 percent of drone manufacturers work in the military sector, the association said. In the civilian area, enormous progress in the development of concrete applications and business models is made. “The use of civil drones in Germany can become profitable for German society with the constructive support of the state as a rule,” says von Hahn. Acceptance among the population is constantly growing.
