The so -called domestic mileage increases for the first time after five declines in a row. The individual vehicle is moved less far. Together it went into the sun and back twice.
The people in Germany drive more car again. Last year, the cars approved in Germany covered a good 594 million kilometers, as can be seen from data from the Federal Motor Transport Authority. That was 3 million more than in the previous year and the first increase since 2018. Before that, the so -called domestic mileage had dropped five times in a row. In 2018 it was still almost 631 million kilometers.
However, the average mileage per car also dropped in 2024 – at least the tenth in a row. According to the KBA – eleven less than in 2023. The fact that another overall route will come out in the end is due to the higher vehicle population. The route corresponded approximately four times the earth and sun.
The greatest part of the route was covered with combustion vehicles. Around 283 million kilometers were on petrol engine, and about 230 million on diesel. Other drive types such as electric cars, hybrids or gas-powered vehicles stand for the remaining kilometers, but they are not shown separately.
On average, petrol engines drive less than 10,000 kilometers
In 2024, gasoline engine was moved an average of 9,555 kilometers, diesel 16,984. Diesel is particularly popular with frequent drivers: from a certain annual mileage, your purchase is usually worthwhile, because then the lower consumption and cheaper fuel compensates for higher acquisition costs and the higher vehicle tax.
The increased number of kilometers also fits that more gasoline was delivered in Germany last year, as can be seen from the preliminary data of the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control: 17.7 million tons of Ottocrafts – 2.1 percent more than 2023. However, diesel was 3.3 percent down to 32.2 million tons. Unlike gasoline, which particularly drives cars and motorcycles, diesel is also used to a large extent for trucks, tractors or buses. Their mileage decreased slightly last year. These larger commercial vehicles came together to almost 102 million kilometers. Motorcycles at around 10 million.
