Netflix is the clear number one in video streaming. Artificial intelligence is also intended to help expand the leadership position.
Netflix viewers can adapt to more recordings generated with AI. Artificial intelligence offers the chance of not only making films and series cheaper, but also better to make it better, argued co-boss Ted Sarandos.
He referred to the Argentine series “El Eternauta”, in which a scene with the collapse of a building in Buenos Aires was created with the help of AI. It was produced much cheaper and ten times faster than with conventional special effects. It was the first scene generated with AI in a published production at the video streaming market leader.
Chatbots like chatt can formulate text – there are also AI software that generates video. The environment or lighting conditions can be changed without using even a camera. At the same time, the question of copyrights is in the room, because the software creates its pictures based on a huge amount of videos with which it has been learned.
The use of AI was also a trigger for the latest Hollywood strikes because screenwriters and actors fear that studios could replace them with software in the future. With the advance into AI production, Netflix could increase the pressure on rival streaming services and studios.
Star director James Cameron (“Titanic”, “Avatar”) said a few months ago that the use of AI in Hollywood could be necessary. If there are further blockbusters with special effects, you have to halve the production costs.
Quarter figures on expectations
Meanwhile, Netflix can continue to rely on loyal viewers. In the past quarter, sales increased by 16 percent to $ 11.08 billion (9.55 billion euros) in the past quarter and easily exceeded the expectations of the analysts. The quarterly win jumped up by over 45 percent to $ 3.125 billion.
The number of customers grew – but Netflix has no longer provides specific information since this year. In addition, increased subscription prices and higher advertising revenue would have contributed to the increase in sales. The advertising revenues are to be doubled this year. The streaming giant also raised sales forecast for the current year, but referred to the weakened dollar.
Netflix now expects sales between 44.8 and $ 45.2 billion for 2025. The previous range was $ 43.5 to $ 44.5 billion. Due to the weaker dollar, the amount of foreign income becomes higher if they are converted into the US currency for accounting.
Netflix scored the audience in the past quarter with the third season of the South Korean successful series “Squid Game”. Netflix had completed the past year with 301.6 million customer households.
Neftlix recently presented a new user interface that should help users, among other things, to find something interesting for them with better suggestions. “The Netflix, which you can see on a Tuesday evening, is different from what you can see on a Sunday afternoon,” said the second co-boss Greg Peters the plans for more adaptation.
