Germany’s largest software house for the tax industry also offers solutions for the new e-bill. These are used more – but it could also be more.

According to the Nuremberg software house DATEV, the smaller companies in Germany hesitate to apply the e-bill required in business transactions. A third of the tax consultancy law firms currently estimate that most of their clients will only send their invoices as e-bills shortly before the statutory cut-off date of e-billing. In the first half of 2025, more than 22.5 million e-bills run on DATEV systems. In 2024 there were a total of around 11 million.



Since January 1, 2025, companies in Germany have had to receive structured e -bills – not only electronic invoices, for example in PDF format. The obligation to send e-bills is staggered, depending on the size of the company. At the latest in 2028, all invoices in business traffic must be issued electronically.

DATEV is the market leader in the offer of software for tax advisors in Germany. In the first half of the year, the IT service provider claimed to be sales of 810.2 million euros, after 739 million euros in the same period last year. The customer base rose significantly to over 850,000. Since the beginning of the year alone, this has been an increase of more than 100,000 customers.
