How can CO2 emissions in traffic be reduced? Chancellor Merz warns Brussels forbidden.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz has warned the EU Commission about possible strict co-rules for company cars. After a meeting with the Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Berlin, Merz said that the automotive industry was one of the nuclear industries in Europe. “We must not let them destroy by narrowing to technologies.” Merz spoke of suggestions that are not necessary. Consumers should make the decision and not the state and not the European Union.
The “Bild am Sonntag” had previously reported that the EU Commission is preparing that rental car providers and large companies should only buy electric cars from 2030. A spokesman for the EU Commission, on the other hand, said that no decision on possible climate proposals for company cars had been made.
In a paper published in March, the Commission had announced that the legislative proposal for the emission reduction of company cars had to be presented by the end of the year, taking into account various technologies. Criticism of an e-car obligation for corporate fleets may have been debated came from the Association of the Automotive Industry and the Federal Ministry of Transport.
