At the beginning of a new school year, parents usually have to dig deep into their pockets. Important teaching materials have become more expensive again. But there is an exception.
When school starts again after the summer vacation, it will be expensive for many parents. Pins, booklets or books – the materials for the lessons like others have also become more expensive, as the Federal Statistical Office reports.
The prices for school and textbooks have increased particularly strongly. In June they were 3.8 percent more expensive than a year earlier, as the test buyers of the Federal Office found. For comparison: the prices for all goods and services have only climbed by 2.0 percent in the same period.
The price increase for school issues and drawing blocks with 0.3 percent is significantly below this value. For writing and drawing material, consumers had to pay 1.7 percent higher prices in June than a year earlier.
In view of the long requirement lists of the schools, it could be a consolation that, according to the Federal Office, the products mentioned only make up a very small part of the entire consumer price index with almost three per thousand.
