Money syringe should prevent delay in the event of a bridge renovation

At Autobahn GmbH there was a delay in bridge renovations. The federal government now wants to counteract.

In view of a financial gap, the federal Autobahn GmbH should get fresh money to renovate bridges. The Federal Ministry of Transport applied for an over -planned issue up to the amount of around 450 million euros for the “short -term implementation” of urgently needed bridge construction measures and road renovations. This emerges from a letter from the Ministry of Finance to the Bundestag’s budget committee. The committee is scheduled to meet at the end of July.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Transport said it was that the additional investment funds from the special fund infrastructure and climate protection provided for in 2025 could actually be installed this year – so that it would be quick to develop the street infrastructure and are not lost unnecessarily.

From the Ministry of Finance it was said that a good solution had been found to provide more money for Autobahn GmbH at short notice. This could be renovated additional bridges and lanes.

A second step, namely the release of another 709 million euros, is to follow shortly after the Ministry of Transport is presented. The aim is to set the break from the tender at Autobahn GmbH and enable Autobahn GmbH to quickly make new tenders.

The CSU housekeeper Florian Oßner said that the tranche of 450 million euros was a first important step to “remove” ongoing projects. However, in order to create legal certainty for tenders for planned, new projects, another 710 million euros are necessary at short notice. “As housekeepers of the government factions, we do everything possible to implement necessary infrastructure measures in our country quickly. This should not fail on avoidable, formal reasons.”

Warnings of delays

Autobahn GmbH had imposed an immediate stopping stop for 2025. Autobahn GmbH has no additional funds before the Federal Budget came into force. In addition, it had warned warnings of considerable delays in bridge renovations because provided funds from the planned billions of billions of special funds for infrastructure could not flow.

The Green Housekeeper Paula Piechotta said it was very good that the budget committee could release the money for conservation measures this month. Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) wanted to put the bridge renovations “on bending and breaking” into the special fund – although this means that tenders would only come later and become significantly more expensive.

The letter to the budget committee states that Autobahn GmbH has reported the Ministry of Transport a “dramatic increase” of the renovation backlog on the motorways and associated massive impairments of traffic safety. In a list of the Ministry of Transport with project examples, for example, a new construction of the Huntbrücke on the A29 in Lower Saxony, the renovation of the Offenbacher Kreuz, the new building of the Talbrücke Uttrichshausen on the A7 and the new construction of the Talbrücke SIGNETE on the A 45 (both in Hesse).

Autobahn GmbH is responsible for planning, construction and operation of the highways. One focus is on the renovation of the many dilapidated bridges in Germany.

In the special fund, expenses of 2.5 billion euros per year are intended for the renovation of motorway bridges. According to the letter to the budget committee, there are considerable delays in the initiation of measures – until the federal budget has been decided in September and can flow from the special fund to funds.

The general works council of the Autobahngesellschaft had called for a stable and permanent financing basis for which everyone involved could rely on. There is frustration in the workforce.
