SAP is not planning a large job cuts, but wants to proceed more continuously in the future. Means: Sometimes, sometimes two percent place annually, which should be eliminated. What does the works council leader think of it?
The chairman of the SAP works council sees the latest dismantling plans of the software company. “If you want to exchange one to two percent of the workforce annually, it shows a cultural change in SAP,” said Eberhard Schick on request. Only voluntary departures would be expected. But: “Instead of using money for severance payments, investments should be made in the further training of the employees, especially in the field of artificial intelligence.”
SAP boss Christian Klein had announced that one wanted to save on the staff. Instead of large string rounds like last year, the DAX heavyweight wants to proceed more continuously in the future. “In one year it can be one, sometimes two percent of the jobs that are eliminated,” he had explained to the financial news agency dpa-AFX. “However, the SAP will continue to grow overall, just less quickly than sales – because we also create new jobs in growth areas.”
Changes through artificial intelligence
Management in sales, but also in the development of software, sees great potential for saving. “AI can support in sales, for example in preparing customer discussions and documentation. But it is not the case that we will no longer have any people in sales in the future,” said Klein. For example, SAP is currently expanding the partner network with management consultations and also leaves sales partners some parts of their own business. “Various tasks are also automated in the development of the software.” There are job profiles where there will be less needs in the future. But there are others where the need grow – for example in AI and data. “It is clear that practically every job function in the SAP will change by AI,” said Klein.
