Dlees in housing construction, slow permits, confusing support programs: the construction industry has had difficult times. Now the situation improves something.
The main building industry benefited from rising orders and sales in May. The order input grew by 5.3 percent and sales by 4.1 percent in the previous year month, as the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden announced. In the first five months of the year, sales rose 2.8 percent compared to the same period in the previous year. For the previous month of April, however, the order input (minus 0.5 percent) stagnated in accordance with the statistics, which is taken into account by companies with at least 20 employees.
The construction industry has had difficult years. Since the prices for materials rose after the outbreak of the Ukraine War and later the interest, the housing was in particular collapsed. Private house builders could no longer afford their own four walls, and projects no longer calculated for professional investors. Now the industry with falling interest and billion dollar expenditure from the federal government hopes for more tailwind.
“In the course of the second quarter of 2025, the order access will remain upward, even if the pace gives in a bit,” said Felix Pakleppa, general manager of the ZDB building industry association. While stabilization is stabilized at a low level in housing construction, the situation in business and public construction fluctuates. Large projects had a significant impact here.
In May, the order intake in building construction, which depends primarily on housing construction, decreased by a good 10.4 percent within a year. In the civil engineering, which includes road construction, however, it was around 20 percent up.
