The Premium Food Group must not take over the locations of the Dutch Battle Group Vion. Now competitor west meat is interpreted.

The meat company West meat from Münster also wants to take over the slaughterhouses of the competitor Vion. This was confirmed by the company at the request of the German Press Agency. Further details will be announced on July 30th at an event in the Haus der Bavarian Agriculture in Herrsching am Ammersee. Other media had previously reported about it.

The Dutch slaughter company Vion plans to withdraw from Germany and to give up several locations – including three cattle slaughterhouses in Buchloe, Waldkraiburg and Crailsheim (also pigs), a dismantling company in Hilden as well as two skin processing companies in Memmingen and Eching -Wichenau. Four of the works are in Bavaria.

Cartel office prohibited purchase by Premium Food Group

The Premium Food Group (formerly Tönnies Group) had already made a fundamental agreement to take over last year. However, the Federal Cartel Office prohibited the purchase in June after a detailed examination. The Premium Food Group, on the other hand, made a complaint. The decision is now being examined by the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court. An appointment for the first hearing has not yet been determined.

In 2024, the Premium Food Group was the market leader in pork slaughter in Germany – by a distance from Westfleisch. Vion has been one of the leading cattle slaughterers in the country in recent years. In 2022, the group was clearly in front of Westfleisch and the Tönnies Group at the time in the number of slaughtered animals.
