And yet: The chimpanzee and Patriarch Grupp have made the company one of the most famous fashion brands in the country in the past decades – and yet very few people know the importance of the trigema company name.




When it was founded in 1919 by Josef and Eugen Mayer, ancestors of the group, the company was registered under the name “Mechanical jersey factory Gebr. Mayer KG”. Later the renamed to jersey factory Gebr. Mayer KG, which explains today’s name. This first businessman and Federal Cross of Merit Wolfgang Grupp 1969: From the TriCotwar factory Gebr. MAYer KG became trigema. The name of the label has therefore emerged as a suitcase word from the original name, similar to Haribo for HaNS RiEgel, Bonn or Hanuta for HaselnuSSTafel stands.
