The Federal Air Transport Agency has required airlines to report monthly on the prices of tickets in economy class on routes to the Far East, the Russian south and Kaliningrad. This follows from the letters of the deputy head of the department, Georgy Bakharev, and the acting head of the central MTU of the Federal Air Transport Agency, Vyacheslav Garkovets, which came into the possession of Izvestia.
Officials asked to send them data on the average cost of booked air transportation in economy class on routes to / from Simferopol, Sochi, Anapa, Blagoveshchensk, Ulan-Ude, Chita, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Magadan, Vladivostok, Yakutsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Khabarovsk, Anadyr and Kaliningrad . The letters indicate that this requirement was preceded by an instruction from the Ministry of Transport, given in May 2021.
The Ministry of Transport told Izvestia that the order had been given to monitor prices and prevent unreasonable increases in airfare.
Today, the prices for air tickets are monitored by the FAS Russia on a regular basis. According to the agency, in 2021, prices returned to pre-pandemic values.
According to an Izvestia source in one of the airlines, the reason for tightening control could be citizens’ complaints about the rise in airfare, or “officials simply decided to switch from a reactive to a proactive risk management method.” A source in another company said that the Federal Air Transport Agency fears an increase in ticket prices for southern destinations by the summer season this year.
According to the Tutu.ru service, the average bill has grown this year for flights from Russian cities to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Chita and Ulan-Ude (by 11-15% compared to last year), to Kaliningrad (by 5%). Tickets for flights to other cities from the list of the Federal Air Transport Agency, on the contrary, have decreased. According to Aviasales, the price increased only on flights to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky – by 12%.
