Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil has asked the departments to be more economical. A measure is not included in the draft household 2026.

For the time being, the Federal Government is not planning to reduce ticket tax in air traffic. “There are currently no scope in the federal budget,” learned the German press agency from government circles. According to the results of the coalition committee from the beginning of July, the lowering of air traffic tax is not one of the prioritized tax measures in which a short -term implementation was agreed.

The design of the household 2026 is to be decided by the cabinet today. According to the cabinet template, income from air traffic tax of EUR 2.07 billion will be expected next year, and revenues of 2.05 billion are planned for 2025. After the decision in the cabinet, the Bundestag is on the move.

Air traffic tax was significantly increased in May 2024. This potentially expensive passenger flights from German airports. Airlines like Ryanair had deleted flights from German airports, referring to the high location costs.

Government circles said with regard to a reduction in ticket tax, a conceivable option of financing would be to save the necessary funds in the individual plans or economy and energy. A withdrawal of the increase in air traffic tax in the course of this legislative period would mean annual tax reductions in the amount of a medium three -digit million amount. It was also said that the main cost factor for the airlines was airport fees for which the transport and the Ministry of the Interior were conceptually responsible.

Announcement in the coalition agreement

In your coalition agreement, CDU, CDU and SPD write: “We want to reduce the air traffic -specific taxes, fees and levies and withdraw the increase in air traffic tax.” However, all measures of the contract are subject to financing.

Industry associations have long been calling for the increase in air traffic tax to be withdrawn, as well as further relief for location costs. According to an expert opinion presented in March on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Transport, significantly higher location costs such as ticket tax brake in European comparison.

Between 2019 and 2024, the location costs in Germany rose significantly more than in the European average. After the burglaries in Corona pandemic, passenger traffic in Germany recovered more slowly.
