Apple profit grows significantly despite Trump’s tariffs

Because of US President Trump’s customs circuit, Apple reversed his delivery routes. The iPhone group digested hundreds of million dollars in additional costs.

The Apple profit rose significantly in the past quarter despite a high burden of Donald Trump’s tariffs. The iPhone group earned $ 23.43 billion (20.5 billion euros) and thus around 8.5 percent more than a year earlier.

Apple had predicted additional costs of $ 900 million by the US President’s import tariffs for the quarter. In the end, the load at $ 800 million was somewhat lower, as Apple boss Tim Cook said in a conference call. For the current quarter, the group expects additional costs of $ 1.1 billion through the tariffs.

Sales increased by ten percent to a good $ 94 billion in the year. According to the group, around one percentage point of this goes back to early purchases because of the customs situation, Cook told the US broadcaster CNBC.

iPhone business grown by 13 percent

Apple devices are mostly built in Asia, such as in China, India and Vietnam. High tariffs were gradually due for imports from these countries. Cook said three months ago that around half of the iPhones sold in the USA were now delivered from India.

The iPhone business grew by 13 percent to just under $ 44.6 billion in the year. Analysts had expected an average of only $ 40 billion. The iPhone is by far the most important Apple product.
