The Hamburg -Berlin railway line is still free – but replacement traffic by bus has been running since early morning.

The replacement traffic by bus on numerous regional traffic connections between Hamburg and Berlin has started. The vehicles have been in use since early Friday morning, the train said. At the same time, the trains in regional and long-distance transport run all day without restrictions. The route between Hamburg and Berlin is only closed in the evening at 9:00 p.m.

Then the extensive renovation work begin. They should continue until the end of April of the coming year. During this time, long -distance traffic is diverted via Stendal and Uelzen. The trains then take an average of 45 minutes longer. ICE and IC trains also only drive once an hour instead of every 30 minutes as before. In the regional traffic, many connections are canceled or only drive on sections. Affected commuters can switch to replacement traffic by bus.
