Beer with alcohol is no longer going well

The German breweries are getting rid of their alcoholic beers more and more. The emerging non -alcoholic varieties can only contain the losses in conventional beer.

The people in Germany drink less and less beer. In the first half of 2025, the German breweries dropped so little alcoholic beer at home and abroad than ever since the introduction of statistics in 1993, reports the Federal Statistical Office.

3.9 billion liters meant a decline of 6.3 percent in the same period last year. Such burglaries had only existed at the beginning of Corona pandemic in the first half of 2020 and in the second half of 2023.

For the first time, the border of 4 billion liters was undercut in a half of the year. In Germany, which is still almost 82 percent of the total sales, the decline at 6.1 percent was a little weaker than when exporting, where the amount decreased by 7.1 percent.

Brauer-Bund also sees problems in the USA

In addition to demographic development, the German Brewer Association also sees economic problems. General Managing Director Holger Eichele says: “Similar to gastronomy and trade, the poor consumer climate also fully beats the breweries. The situation of the catering trade is worrying, many companies are fighting for survival and have not recovered since pandemic.” When exporting, the customs agreement with the USA will increase the pressure on the companies again.

Lichtblick remains the development of the non -alcoholic varieties: Last year, 579 million liters was produced almost twice as much non -alcoholic beer as it was ten years earlier. Alcohol -reduced mixed drinks such as cyclists have also increased since 2014, if only by 9.3 percent to 364 million liters.
