Last week, the minister met with the undersecretary of Actions for the Defense of Consumers, Liliana Schwindt, and with bakers’ centers of the Province of Buenos Aires to address issues related to the final price of bread on the counter depending on the industry cost structure. It is worth remembering that bread has already suffered an increase of 25% since last week due to the rise in production costs. After that meeting, it was agreed to guarantee the price of French bread in bakeries represented by these centers, in a range of $180 to $220. Bakers from Avellaneda, Merlo, Moreno, Marcos Paz, Quilmes, Florencio Varela, Lomas de Zamora and General Rodríguez participated.
In parallel, the cereal value chain demanded a series of measures from the national government, among which the elimination of export duties on cereal and a series of tax benefits to stimulate production stand out. Currently, wheat and corn are taxed at 12% as withholdings.
In parallel, agriculture expressed its rejection of the wheat trust, arguing the low percentage of the impact of wheat on the price of bread. From Argentrigo and Maízar, they requested a meeting with the Secretary of Internal Trade and the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Julián Domínguez, to provide alternatives that allow supplying the demand for products derived from the corn and wheat chain, at reasonable prices.
