A new study shows how Germany travels. The survey refutes clichés. All vacationers would have one wish in common.
The Germans of the Germans cannot be stopped from concerns about sustainability. This is the result of a survey by the Hamburg Foundation for Future Questions. According to the foundation, around every sixth (17 percent) finds that sustainability is more important when choosing the travel destination than the price.
Over 65-year-olds prefer to plan without a travel agency
The survey also showed that over 65-year-olds are most frequently planned without the help of travel agencies and package providers. Around two thirds (64 percent) compare offers, combine independently flights and accommodations and are increasingly falling back on digital aids, the foundation said, which is connected to the Tobacco Group British American Tobacco.
For those under the age of 30, this only affects a good third of the respondents. “The results contradict the common clichés,” said the scientific director of the foundation, Ulrich Reinhardt. The digital natives showed a surprising proximity to standardized offers. “It is the more experienced who act independently and confidently – also digital.”
Social media and nutrition contribute to the decision
A rather new development is that more German vacationers are inspired by impressions from social media. 14 percent of the respondents stated this. Five percent of the respondents said that vegetarian and vegan food offers influenced their choice.
According to the foundation, all respondents have the desire for individual freedom of choice on the trip. “Travel providers are well advised to rely less on rigid complete packages in the future – and instead offer flexible modular systems,” said Reinhardt. The citizens did not want pre -made trips.
