Without giving up dialogue, he made it clear that Brazil will not accept external pressures or political aggressions, and that the sovereign decisions of the country are not under discussion.

After the implementation of new tariffs by the Government of Donald Trump, the president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, He called for caution and diplomatic responsibility in negotiations with the United States, although he warned that Brazil will not allow aggressions or accept external pressures.

“There is a limit in the discussion with the United States,” Lula said this Sunday during a meeting of the Workers Party (PT), the political space he leads. Without directly appointing Trump, he criticized the tariff policy of Washington, which he described as an attempt at economic punishment for political reasons. “We want to be respected by our size. We are not an insignificant republic,” he said.

The Measures imposed by US Administration – which included a 50% tariff to various Brazilian products – generated an escalation of tension between the two countries. The White House justified the decision as a retaliation for what considered a “witch hunt” against former president Jair Bolsonaro, in reference to the judicial process against him for a coup attempt. Within that framework, the United States sanctioned Judge Alexandre de Moraes, responsible for the case, blocking their assets in US territory and prohibiting financial transactions with citizens of the country.
