The federal government wants to build new gas power plants. But is southern Germany systematically preferred by a bonus? The Minister of Economic Affairs calms down on a trip through the East German coal region.
Federal Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche contradicts concerns that East Germany could be systematically disadvantaged when building new gas power plants. “Fear is unfounded,” said the CDU politician in Dresden. “We need power plants all over Germany.” The East German Kohleregion Lausitz will also participate in this.
The background is the so -called south bonus: the federal government plans to prefer southern Germany when building new gas power plants. This had triggered criticism in Saxony. Reich said that the EU Commission was “very, very far” to get more power plant capacity approved. “So we will have several waves of tender,” she added.
Reiche: Lausitz has excellent prerequisites
Lusatia has excellent prerequisites, emphasized Reiche. The hydrogen kernel network is not far, you have large buyers and with the energy group LEAG a company that “is in a difficult but courageous transformation”. She was part of the coal commission herself and ensured that funds were available for the East. She feels that she is committed, said Reiche.
In the coalition agreement of CDU, CSU and SPD, the construction of up to 20 gigawatt gas power plant performance is planned by 2030. The power plants are supposed to step in if the electricity requirement cannot be covered by renewable energies – for example in so -called dark downs when no sun shines and no wind blows. State funding is planned. Reiche had declared a focus in previous information in southern Germany.
