Bio is grown in this country on about eleven percent of the agricultural area – but fewer and fewer organic farms. There are two reasons for this.
Despite an area, which is slightly enlarged compared to the previous year, the number of organic farms drops in Germany. This emerges from the data published by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for ecological agriculture for 2024.
The number of eco -cubes decreased by 2.2 percent last year. A total of 35,881 farms in Germany operated ecologically. Even if conventional companies had continued to switch to organic, on the one hand, age -related business tasks and on the other hand, problems with the succession of the court led to a decline in the number of ecologically economy farms, the ministry said.
Easy growth in the organic area
Slight growth, on the other hand, has been recorded in terms of the size of the ecologically managed area. This grew by 1.3 percent to 1.91 million hectares. Overall, organic is produced on 11.5 percent of the agricultural area, according to the Ministry.
