The boom in electric cars continues. More than 18 percent of all new registrations had an electric motor in July. From the point of view of the Vdik industry association, this has one reason.
The number of newly approved electric cars in Germany rose significantly again in July. More than 48,600 vehicles meant an increase of 58 percent compared to the previous year, as the Federal Motor Transport Authority announced. With a share of 18.4 percent, almost every fifth new car was a battery vehicle (BEV).
The high demand lasts all year round after it had dropped significantly last year. Between January and July 2025, more than 297,000 BEV were re -registered, according to the Association of International Motor Mail Management (VDIK), an increase of 38.4 percent compared to the previous year.
“We attribute the increase to the significantly larger vehicle range in the entry-level segments,” said Vdik President Imelda Labbé. “In the past few months, several brands have presented new models that are technically mature and are particularly affordable for broad customer and user groups.”
Sales crisis at Tesla continues
Meanwhile, the sales crisis of the US electric car manufacturer Tesla continues. Last month, the manufacturer under his boss Elon Musk was only able to drop around 1,100 new vehicles in Germany, more than 55 percent less than in the same month.
A total of around 264,802 cars were re -approved across all drive types and segments in Germany in Germany, about eleven percent more than in July of the previous year. The VDIK refers to a special effect: Due to new EU type approval regulations, the number of new registrations in July 2024 was particularly low. Many approvals were therefore brought forward in June. “In average from June and July 2025, the car market was in a total of 2.7 percent compared to the same period last year,” the association said.
