The planned tariff loyalty law already aroused criticism from the employer in advance. But Minister of Labor Bärbel Bas defends her project.
Minister of Labor Bärbel BAS (SPD) defends the collective bargaining lawy of collective bargaining against criticism of the employers. The law should secure working conditions, especially in large public orders, how they are expected after the Federal Government’s investment package. It should not occur “what we have often heard in the past that companies that have collective bargaining do not benefit from public orders,” said the minister.
The Federal Cabinet had previously launched the draft of a tariff loyalty law. According to the plans, companies should pay their employees after collective bargaining conditions for public orders from the federal government. Specifically, this means that you would have to grant a fee, Christmas bonus, vacation and rest periods as in industry -customary collective agreements. This would make companies that adhere to collective agreements better chances of orders. However, the costs for the public sector could be higher.
Employer president sees “compulsory tariff law”
A project from the coalition agreement is implemented with the law. The goal is a higher collective bargaining. Orders for procurement for the Bundeswehr are excluded. The draft now goes to the Bundestag that can change it.
Employer president Rainer Dulger had criticized the plans and asked for their stop. The tariff loyalty law is a “compulsory tariff law” and should not come in this way, Dulger told the German Press Agency. The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which refers to a high bureaucratic effort, sees it similarly.
IG Metall supports the plans
The IG Metall union, on the other hand, supports the project and calls for implementation without loopholes. The IG Metall Chairman Christiane Benner said: “It is good and correct that the tariff loyalty law comes. But it has to be consistent. That means there must be no exceptions, delays or thresholds that make employers possible to avoid the law.” She also referred to the planned billion dollar investments by the federal government in the infrastructure.
