In London you can quickly be with the plane from Germany. According to the will of the governments in London and Berlin, this should also go by train – the next step has now been taken.
Germany and Great Britain advance the project of a direct rail connection. Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) and his British counterpart Heidi Alexander signed an explanation in Hamburg, according to which a task force should clarify open questions. “We are committed to ensuring that the first trains can roll directly from Germany to Great Britain in the coming years,” said Schnieder.
First of all, together with infrastructure operators and railway companies, questions about border and security controls would have to be clarified. “A continuous connection would make travel enormously simplify and significantly increase the attractiveness of the train journey,” said Schnieder. Alexander spoke of a pioneering explanation that has the potential to create a comfortable alternative to flying.
Alexander sees enormous economic potential
The task force should bring both countries closer together “and open up new opportunities for tourism, the economy and the cultural exchange,” said the minister. “A direct rail connection would contribute to the creation of new jobs and strengthen the important trade connections that are the basis of our economic relations with Germany.”
