The difficult economic times do not hold up founders: the number of businesses is increasing. However, many companies also give up.
Regardless of the difficult economic situation, more people in Germany venture into self -employment. According to the Federal Statistical Office, around 67,600 companies were founded in the first half of 2025, whose legal form and number of employees indicate greater economic importance. Compared to the same period last year, that was 9.4 percent more. However, the number of larger companies increased, the tasks, by 6.6 percent to around 51,800.
The Wiesbaden statisticians assume greater economic importance if, for example, a company is founded as a limited liability company (GmbH), employees are hired or boss or boss have a master’s certificate in the craft.
A total of more than 325,000 new startings
Including smaller companies, there were 325,300 new start -ups in the first six months of this year and thus 4.6 percent more than in the same period. This was opposed to 246,900 trade registrations – 1.6 percent more than a year earlier.
In total, the Federal Office has 386,600 trade registrations in the first half of the year – an increase of 3.4 percent within a year. In addition to start -ups from companies, this also includes, for example through purchase or partnership entry as well as conversions and immigration from other registration districts.
