Summit demands stop the new railway plans in Hamburg-Hannover

Representatives from politics and citizens’ initiatives are calling for the plans of a railway line between Hamburg and Hanover. Federal Minister of Finance Klingbeil strengthens their backs.

The plans for a new Hamburg-Hannover rail connection are based on great resistance in the affected regions. More than 100 representatives from politics, environmental associations and citizens’ initiatives spoke out against a route through the Lüneburg Heath at the Heidegicula in Bispingen on Sunday. In a statement, they asked Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schneider (CDU) to stop the new line immediately.

“I am for an expansion of rail transport. But I see that trust in participation processes will be lost when agreed compromises that have been laboriously developed for years are questioned,” said a statement by Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, who was not there for the event in his constituency. He advocates the agreement of the Schiene Nord dialog forum from 2015 for the expansion of the existing routes: “Compromises should apply. We will follow the further planning of the railways very precisely.”

After a general renovation, the public should be included in the further needs of capacity increases. Deutsche Bahn favors a new line, although there was already a consensus against the new building around ten years ago. In the Bundestag there could be a decision this year.

State Minister criticizes the course of the train

“Infrastructure has to be developed against each other,” said Lower Saxony Minister of Transport Grant Hendrik Tonne in Bispingen. From a new railway tip, he expects dialogue and problem awareness of the location on site. The compromise called “Alpha e” on the expansion of the inventory offers the opportunity to make relief on the route promptly.

The railway planning of the railway is not sufficient, the new building variant by no means only lead along Autobahn 7, said Tonne: It goes across the country. Due to the cuts in nature, a room decrease in space is needed, Tonne demanded. “But the railway wants to make a decision in the Bundestag beforehand,” he criticized. In the region you can see the frustration of people.

The new or expansion of routes is central to achieve the goals of the “Germany cycle”. At some point, this is supposed to combine the important main axes of long -term traffic every half -hour rhythm. This should lead to better transfer options and significantly shorter travel times.

The planning of new construction projects often takes many years and is controversial. At Hamburg-Hannover, too, the new route is justified with the Germany cycle. According to the railway, the previous route is one of the most overloaded routes in Germany. Against a new route there are large reservations in the region and also in politics, because among other things, large -scale interventions in nature and landscape as well as a lot of noise are feared.
