The Chinese government extends its subsidy test against cheese and milk powder from Europe. The background is the EU punitive tariffs on Chinese electric cars.

China has extended the ongoing anti-subsidy investigation against dairy products from the European Union. Because of the complexity of the case, the exam should now last until February 21, 2026, as the Ministry of Commerce in Beijing announced. Originally, the examination was to be completed this week. According to the authority, certain products such as fresh or processed cheese are affected.

Reaction to tariffs against Chinese e-cars

The investigation had been initiated in August 2024 and was responded to Chinese electric cars in response to the EU’s penalty tariffs. It is not the only countermeasure of China in the trade dispute with Europe: Branded wine (brandy) and pork from the EU were also checked by the authorities.

With a view to the EU supplement to Chinese electric cars, Beijing Brussels accuses international rules. The EU had justified the surcharges with state subsidies in China, which in its view. Beijing rejects the allegations and speaks of protectionism.
