The metal and electrical industry has been stroking jobs for years. The industry association criticizes high costs. The loss of positions has far -reaching economic consequences.
Job reduction in the German metal and electrical industry continues. In June alone, almost 14,000 jobs were lost in the industry, as the total metal employers’ association announced. In the first half of the year there were 76,000. “The location has a massive cost problem for energy, taxes, social security contributions and bureaucracy,” said association chief economist Lars Kroemer. In addition, the global economic burdens would come from the US’s customs policy.
Nationwide, around 3.82 million people work in the industry in June – 104,000 fewer than a year earlier. Since 2023, 154,000 jobs have been lost in the metal and electrical industry, the association said.
With each job that has been a mined workplace, Germany loses more than 100,000 euros in added value, emphasized Kroemer. “That is almost 25 billion euros less in economic strength compared to 2019.” A strong “reform agent” is needed to strengthen competitiveness.
