Punctuality of the train deteriorates significantly in July

The train is significantly removed from its punctuality goal for 2025. In July, too, the trains in long -distance transport drove the demands. Heat waves and arson attacks disrupted the operation.

Deutsche Bahn was on the road in July as it was not as much as throughout the year. Only half of the long -distance trains (56.1 percent) arrived on time last month, as the federal group announced. That was almost six percentage points less than in July of the previous year. A train goes into the statistics from a delay of six minutes. Failures are not taken into account in operational punctuality.

On the other hand, these flow into the punctuality. It describes how large the proportion of passengers was who arrived at the destination with a maximum delay of 14 minutes and 59 seconds. This value also decreased significantly to 59.4 percent in July. In the same month in the previous year, there were still more than 67 percent of travelers.

Own goal from a distance

A spokeswoman emphasized that the railway could be anything but satisfied with the current figures. The outgoing railway chief Richard Lutz had promised an operational punctuality between 65 and 70 percent for the current year. The goal has already been missed in the first half of the year. The train was also far from it in July.

According to the company, there were several reasons that led to the high delay rate. In addition to the still many construction sites, the heat wave led to embankment fires that braked traffic in early July. In addition, there was an arson attack on the infrastructure at the end of the month, which led to restrictions on train traffic on the highly frequented route Duisburg-Düsseldorf. Furthermore, due to a software update, the train had to reduce the top speed for several days at a supplier in the Cologne/Rhein-Main area.
