Whether when shopping or in the city center: more and more frequent cameras record the car license plate when parking. But the digital parking system has its pitfalls – many consumers feel deceived.
Consumer advocates report rising complaints about private parking space managers in Germany. Above all, those affected criticized unclear rules, high contractual penalties, collection letters and poor accessibility of the service, as a survey by the German Press Agency showed among the federal states’ consumer protection centers. It is primarily about barrier -free parking spaces that work with license plates.
Criticism: High penalties, unclear parking conditions
Consumer advocates repeatedly criticize a poor signage of the terms and conditions and excessive claims. Several consumer advice centers reported cases in which drivers were reported to pay at the machine “0 euros” parking fee because they were within the free park. However, times were exceeded by the actual exit and there were sometimes high payment requests.
User in the obligation to operate
The companies themselves reject the allegations. Providers such as Mobility Hub, Park & Control or Wemolo emphasize the high accuracy of their systems and refer to goodwill regulations. Violations are measured in the millions of parking processes in the disappearingly low area. Errors usually result from incorrect entries from the users. Contract penalties are necessary to prevent false parking and were based on the public office catalog.
