DB Cargo is one of the cargo children of the train. Sigrid Nikutta is currently trimmed for profitability. Workshops should also close for black numbers.
The tremenda daughter of the railway, DB Cargo, wants to close numerous workshops across Germany. According to information from the German Press Agency, 10 out of 15 branch offices are to be closed, 4 of which are in the new federal states. A total of 170 jobs are to be broken down in the extensive restructuring of the workshop landscape.
Also changes at the main locations
DB Cargo currently operates 11 maintenance plants with 15 branches nationwide. A lot should also change in the main locations: the workshop in Mainz-Bischofsheim should be completely closed, in Halle (Saale), Seelze and Oberhausen, the car maintenance is to be eliminated. Only locomotives would then be repaired there.
DB Cargo hopes that the restructuring will ensure more efficiency by specialized teams. The concept was presented to the overall works council of DB Cargo at the end of July. Negotiations on this should begin in September.
Cargo has to write black from 2026
DB Cargo has been in crisis for years. The transport subsidiary of the railway group will have to write black again next year, as the EU Commission determined it as part of a aid process. Cargo boss Sigrid Nikutta has therefore prescribed a strict austerity course for the company: what is not profitable is deleted.
Cargo was able to significantly reduce his losses in the first half of the year, but after the first six months of the current year there was an operational minus. The closure of the workshops is now the next step.

The work Mainz-Bischofsheim and ten branches of Rostock, Osnabrück, Magdeburg, Senftenberg, Hamburg-Billwerder, Offenburg, Ingolstadt, Regensburg, Emden and Stendell.
